Meet Our Staff

Senior Pastor Barry Burns was born and raised in Lima, Ohio.  He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Bowling Green State University, and then briefly taught in the Sidney City School District before entering seminary at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH.  Pastor Barry's interests outside ministry include golf, reading, music, and family activities.  He and his wife Julie have two sets of twins:  Laura and Andrew are seniors and Elizabeth and Emily are in the 9th grade.

Tim Keen, CCA,was raised in northeast Ohio near Alliance.  He is our Church Administrator and Director of Ministries.  He is a graduate of Kent State University holding degrees in Education and Business Administration.  He has received his certification as Certified Church Administrator (CCA). His primary responsibilities are in Adult Education and Discipleship, working with the Senior Pastor to implement the mission and vision of the church and business administration including finance and stewardship, property and personnel management and daily operations.  His hobbies include flea markets, music and taking care of his daschund, Bubba.

Ruth McFarland, Youth Director grew up in Warsaw, OH and graduated from Ohio Christian University with a Bachelor Degree in youth ministry and religion and theology.  She looks forward to all that God has in store for this church, the youth, the people and also herself!

Alice Chester, Children's Director graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BA in music education. She began teaching private voice and piano lessons in 1992 and later added the Kindermusik and Musik Garten curriculas to her teaching schedule. She now owns "The Children's Music Studio" in Lancaster, Ohio, teaches Musik Garten at "Studio One" in Circleville and came on staff at Community Church in 2008 as Childen's Ministry Director. She works with children 7 days a week as she and her husband Bob have two, Casey & Delaney.

Kimberly Weaver, Outreach Director graduated from Asbury College in 2003 with a B.A. in Christian Ministries. She was the Work Team Coordinator for world Gospel Mission (Marion, IN) sending over 500 volunteers to mission fields all over the world. She also served as Children's Pastor in Aldersgate UM Church (Seminole, FL) for 4 years. Kimberly and her husband Bill are the parents of an energetic, drum-loving 3 year old son, Reese.

Rodney Griffith is Director of Caring Ministries (Community Cares) for the church. He grew up in northwestern Ohio and retired in June,2007 from the Pickaway Co. Alternative School where he taught and worked with at-risk students. He is a certified lay speaker and member of UM-Men. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the American Correctional Association and the American Correctional Chaplains Association. He is also a member of Christian Fellowship Ministries where he is a certified chaplain. He serves as a contract-chaplain at Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe, Ohio. He is founder and director of One Community Ministries the prison, reentry and life skills ministry of Community UMC.

Judy Lane - Worship Leader graduated from Grove City High School and obtained her BSBA in accounting from The Ohio State University while she took classes in music. She first started applying her musical talents in worship during her middle school years and has dedicated her volunteer time to the Lord's service with involvement in church choirs, worship teams, building teams, music team, Sunday school, VBS and various other church committees. She first entered into Contemporary Worship in 1999 at the Grove City United Methodist Church and was an active member and leader within the Praise Team. She and her military husband, Captain David Lane have two wonderful kids, Cemantha and Joe.

Larry Holcomb - Organist grew up in Crooksville, Ohio.  He started piano lessons two months before his 5th birthday.  He studied music education and music theory at Ohio University and continued his education and received a Master of Fine Arts degree.  Larry started playing at Community UMC in 1998 and enjoys gardening and geneology.

Don Metzer - Organist is the son of a minister and graduated from Circleville HS.  Don graduated from Otterbein College where he received a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He earned a Masters of Arts degree from The Ohio State University with a major in Educational Administration.  Don has been an organist here for 40 years.  He and is wife Ula Jean have two sons and five grandchildren.  Don's hobbies include music, gardening, Rotary activities, photography, and enjoying my family, especially the grandchildren!

Sandy Barnett - Church/Membership Secretary graduated from Circleville HS and attended Columbus State Community College.  She retired from the Ohio Dept. of Youth Services in 2007.  She has one son and a 13 yr. old grandson with whom she spends much of her spare time.  Sandy enjoys singing in the church choir.

Karen Kocher - Communications/Financial Secretary graduated from Ohio University in 1988 with a degree in Communication Systems Management.  Karen also serves as Treasurer for The Emergency Clearinghouse of Pickaway County which provides food assistance.  Karen and her husband Brad have two children and enjoy watching all their activities.

Jennifer Scherer - Nursery Attendant has been a member of this church from infancy. She is expecting to graduate from The Ohio State University in June 2011 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Human Ecology. The courses she has studied is helping her provide care for the early toddler age children here in the Community Nursery. Jenny also enjoys teaching cheerleading.

Paul Johnson - Custodian was born in Tarlton and grew up in Kentucky.  Paul has worked in construction and heavy equipment most of his life.  He and his wife Lisa (director of Haven House) have three sons and two grandsons - the "apple of his eye."
